Most snow removal companies in the GTA run truck plows, and for good reason: a plow clears a plain asphalt driveway in a couple of minutes. If your driveway is interlock, pavers, or stamped concrete, the trade-off looks different.
Truck plow
- Fast. One or two passes and the truck moves on, which is why plow routes are cheap per driveway.
- Hard on pavers. A steel blade catches heaved paver edges, chips borders, and scuffs the surface. We go through how in can a snow plow damage interlock.
- Leaves a pile. Snow gets pushed to one side, often onto the lawn, and it can bury the walkway or the end of the driveway.
- Doesn't do walkways or steps. Those still need a shovel.
Commercial snowblower and shovels
- Gentle on the surface. The snow is lifted off and thrown clear rather than scraped across the pavers.
- Cleaner edges. A shovel finishes borders, steps, and the walkway, so the whole front of the house is done in one visit.
- Snow goes where you want it. No giant pile on the lawn or garden.
- Slower, so it costs more. It takes more time per driveway, which is why it's priced as a premium service.
Which should you choose?
For a plain asphalt driveway, a plow is a reasonable, budget-friendly choice. For interlock, pavers, stamped concrete, or a driveway with a decorative border, a snowblower and shovels protect what you paid for. The extra cost each winter is usually far less than relaying a damaged section in the spring.
Home Bros clears with snowblowers and shovels, never a plow blade on interlock, with seasonal contracts in Mississauga and one-time visits across the GTA. See interlock driveway snow removal or check your seasonal price.
