A fall cleanup is only as good as its timing. Too early and half the leaves are still on the trees; too late and you're raking under the first snow. And in some neighbourhoods there's a third factor: wind off the lake.
The general window
Across the GTA, the sweet spot is once the leaves are mostly down — usually late October into November. Booking a couple of weeks ahead matters, because the calendar fills fast in that window and everyone wants the same two weekends.
Near the lake, wait a little longer
On the lakeshore, wind pushes leaves around and can re-cover a yard you cleared last week. In Ajax, Scarborough out by the Bluffs, and lakeside Oakville, it usually pays to time the cleanup toward the very end of the drop so it isn't undone by the next gust.
Estate and rural properties: build in time
Large treed properties like those in King City and Kleinburg carry acres of leaves and storm debris, so they take longer and are worth booking earlier to secure the date.
Don't leave it to the first snow
The one deadline that isn't flexible is winter. Leaves left on the lawn under snow smother the grass and invite pests, so the goal is always to get the yard cleared and winter-ready before the first real snowfall — which, if you're staying with us, flows straight into a seasonal snow plan.
