A lot of Mississauga and Oakville homeowners have spent serious money on an interlock or paver driveway, then hand it to a truck plow every winter. "Interlock-friendly" snow removal is simply clearing that driveway in a way that doesn't chip, scrape or loosen it. Here's what that looks like in practice.
Why a plow blade and interlock don't mix
Pavers move. Every freeze-thaw cycle can lift one a few millimetres, and a steel blade running at speed catches those raised edges, chips the soldier-course border, and scuffs the surface with trapped grit. We go through the details in can a snow plow damage interlock.
What interlock-friendly clearing means
- No plow blade. Commercial snowblowers lift the snow off and throw it clear; shovels finish the edges, steps and walkway by hand.
- Edges marked before the first snowfall, so nobody guesses where the pavers end and the lawn begins.
- Easy on salt. A gentler ice melt, used sparingly, because heavy rock salt drives the freeze-thaw flaking and washes out joint sand. More in will road salt damage my interlock driveway.
- Snow placed, not dumped, away from the walkway so it doesn't melt and refreeze across your path.
- A photo after every visit, so you can see the result even when you're away.
Where we do it
We clear snow in Mississauga and Oakville. In Mississauga that includes Lorne Park, Port Credit, Mineola, Erin Mills, Churchill Meadows and Streetsville. In Oakville, Old Oakville, Glen Abbey, Bronte, Joshua Creek and Eastlake.
Is it more expensive?
A little, because clearing by hand takes longer than one pass with a truck. We keep it reasonable by routing crews street by street. Compared with relaying a section of chipped pavers in the spring, it's usually the cheaper option. See snowblower vs plow for the full comparison.
